Over the last couple of years, Investors’ Circle has seen an increasing interest in sustainable agriculture and food systems – both from entrepreneurs and investors.

Entrepreneurs are seeking to innovate across the entire food system from seeds to supply chains, and from access to food (from superfoods to crickets) to incorporating technology for efficiency and tracking for farming, aquaculture, livestock grazing. A lot of this seems to be driven by millennials, who want to fundamentally change the way we grow and engage with our food. For example, in Forbes’s new 30 Under 30, two #FundedbyIC entrepreneurs were selected in the “Social Entrepreneur” category from this sector — congratulations to Seal the Seasons and MISFIT Juicery! Interestingly, the 30 Under 30 “Food & Drink” category also highlighted several companies with a social mission.

There is clear investor interest in this sector, too – over the last two years, 23% of the deals done by IC members have had a strong agriculture and food system impact. Additionally, we received strong interest back from members in a recent about interest areas. To this end, we are pleased to share that we will launch a Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems working group in 2018! To be a part of this working group, please email Andrew.
