IC Funds

by Kelsi Boyle last modified 2008-01-24 18:03

A number of Investors' Circle members have organized social mission venture funds and garnered investment support from the IC Network, including Solstice Capital, HFG Expansion Fund, Capstone Ventures, Women’s Growth Capital Fund, CEI Ventures, SJF Ventures, Expansion Capital Partners, Investeco Capital, Underdog Ventures, and Massachusetts Green Energy Fund.

In addition to assisting its members in attracting capital to such funds, IC seeks to directly incubate new social mission funds.

IC Funds Include:

Commons Capital

commonsCommons Capital was launched in 2002 with $13.5 million in committed capital and 53 limited partners, over half of whom are Investors' Circle members. The fund seeks strong financial returns as well as significant social and environmental impact, and invests in early stage private companies in four industries: clean energy, environment, health care and education. The fund also favors companies that are managed by women or minorities, and companies that enhance community development and international sustainability.

The Patient Capital Collaborative (PCC)

PCCThe Patient Capital Collaborative (PCC) is an investment vehicle available exclusively to the IC community, led by IC member Schuyler (Sky) Lance, a 20-year investment veteran. The PCC was launched in 2007 and consists of a series of independent annual investment funds – limited partnerships – that invest in companies that have applied for financing through the Investors’ Circle application process. The Fund’s portfolio is therefore expected to consist solely of early- or expansion-stage venture deals that combine social, environmental, and financial returns. The Fund will focus on companies that fit within IC’s industry preferences, and the Fund is expected to generally make investments in the following categories:

  • Energy & Environment;
  • Food & Organics;
  • Community & International Development;
  • Education & Media; and
  • Health & Wellness.
